Information on the South Carolina Web site for filing initial SC unemployment benefit claims
Using the SC Government website you may file a claim for unemployment benefits and/or access a link to register for work with the South Carolina Employment Security Commission (SCESC). If you want to file a claim for unemployment benefits, you should choose that option first. All South Carolina residents are required to register for work within two weeks of filing a claim for unemployment benefits. After completing your unemployment claim, you will be offered a link to the South Carolina Job Link web site to register for work.
If you live in another state, but wish to file a South Carolina unemployment claim because you worked here, then you must register for work in the state where you live. On this site, you should choose to file a claim for unemployment compensation only.
You may only be interested in registering for work and using the resources of the Employment Security Commission to improve your current job situation. If that is the case, you may choose to “Just Register for Work.†You may also want to choose this option if you live in South Carolina, but are filing an unemployment claim against another state.
This web site is on-line and available for use Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM Eastern Time. Claims and Registrations that are not completed by 7:00 PM Eastern Time can be resumed and completed at any time during system hours of operation.
